Hello everyone, today’s broadcast is not the typical one, but I would like to introduce a new little side project that the team has and is currently developing..
The Coherence Metric
Here at Kunga’s Written Radio we want to introduce the Coherence Metric- this is a metric that will take in information about each broadcast, assign weights and values and return a score for each post. Things such as views, likes, comments restacks, Coherence Score (more on this in a second), anything will have an impact on the metric, with different values to each aspect. Currently only data after the first 6 days are included, but steps are being taken to take all time statistics, which will be weighted differently.
To be clear, this isn’t some nefarious ploy to try get people to over-like or spam comments- this is purely a mini passion project trying to see what posts were popular, which ones were engaged with the most, and which ones flopped, and an excuse for the team to tinker with data and weights (we like to see graphs go up and down). We are also hoping that you the audience, does not take this as a sign to try do extra things you do not want to. Like the post if you did, comment if you want to make an observation or ask a question, subscribe if you want to see more :)
One thing that we do want to mention as well is the Coherence Score:
Coherence Score
At the end of each post, there will be a poll with the option to give each broadcast a coherence score, with 5 being the highest, and 1 being the lowest. The team imagines that after having read the post, the audience can give the broadcast a Coherence Score: you can give the score according to whatever qualification you seem fit, but some factors could be:
The topic covered (how interesting it was)
The Writing Style (how it was written, if it made sense, how well one section flowed to the other)
The execution (how much the points or analysis made sense, how much the post made you think)
This poll will be at the end of each post, so keep an eye out! The team has added these polls in all of our previous broadcasts, so if you decide to go back and give them a ranking we would greatly appreciate it!.
Potential Issues
Now, there are no current expert statisticians employed at the KWR, so there may be some issues in comparing the Coherence Metric scores of each broadcast. Different stages of growth may distort different posts’ performance. Where averages were included in calculations, these were made sure that averages would only include posts up to and including the broadcast, and any future broadcast would not have an impact on this one. Different people may use different thought patterns in giving broadcasts a Coherence Score, but we are hoping on the ‘wisdom of crowds’, where taking the average of a crowd can result in eliminating the bias or noise to produce a clearer and more coherent result.
What’s the Point
As briefly mentioned, this is purely just for us, to be able to see and measure the ‘performance’ of broadcasts. Additionally, we are looking to publish quarterly updates and rankings, so the audience too can see how different posts have fared. Each successive broadcast will display the previous broadcast’s Coherence Metric Score, as well as it’s ranking.
What can you do?
The key thing is to keep doing what you are doing, not feel pressured to like or comment if you normally wouldn’t. The biggest thing you can do is at the end of each post is to give broadcasts a Coherence Score. Additionally, if you have any suggestions for what kind of data or statistic can be used in the Coherence Metric let us know! It will be a constantly evolving metric, being tinkered and improved over time.
That’s all from me for now, but stay tuned for future broadcasts,
