You should absolutely watch the show- I’ve tried to steer clear from what the show covers to avoid spoilers as much as possible.
As for who benefits, it may be which of the selves has the larger area, and therefore more access to amenities- but it could also just be the first, original self, they decide how much, when and why they should get severed in the first place :)
